The Cal Poly women’s basketball team lost to UC Riverside 76-59 on Thursday night, suffering just its second Big West Conference loss of the year.
Five players scored in double figures for the Highlanders (6-12, 3-2 Big West), led by Amber Cox’s 18 points.
Junior forward Kristina Santiago, who has been named the conference player of the week on two straight occasions, led the Mustangs (11-6, 4-2 Big West) with 14 points before fouling out.
Brittany Lange chipped in 13 in defeat. Outside of those two, though, Cal Poly shot 12 of 33 as a team and had no others in double-figure scoring.
The Mustangs didn’t block any shots, were 9 of 19 from the free-throw line and committed 23 turnovers to UC Riverside’s 18.
Cal Poly’s Rachel Clancy pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.
Alyssa Morris added 14 points for the Highlanders, who withstood a 6-of-11 performance by Cal Poly from beyond the 3-point arc and also got strong contributions from Rhaya Neabors (12 points) and Marissa Rivera (11 points and eight rebounds).
