Matt LaGrassa scored his third goal of the season, and the Cal Poly men won the first game of a soccer doubleheader Sunday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium, beating College of Charleston 2-1.
LaGrassa scored off an assist from Justin Dhillon.
Kaba Alkebulan also scored, off an assist from Kip Colvey, to give Cal Poly (4-2-1) a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Leland Archer scored on a penalty kick in the second half for the Cougars (3-3-1).
It was the first time the two schools have played each other.
Cal Poly had a season-high 21 shots, putting eight on goal.
Goalkeeper Wade Hamilton made three saves for the Mustangs.
Cal Poly travels to Loyola Marymount on Sept. 28.
