The Cal Poly women's soccer team opened its season with a scoreless overtime draw at San Francisco on Friday night.
Cal Poly goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti saved four shots on goal to record the shutout, the 16th of her career to move her into fifth place in school history in career shutouts.
The Mustangs, which beat the Dons 3-1 in San Luis Obispo last season, went to overtime in their season opener for the first time since 2007. A year ago, Cal Poly didn't go to overtime until its 10th game.
Elise Krieghoff was unable to score on three shots for the the Mustangs, and Caitlyn Kreutz and Nicole Wheeler each had a pair of shots for Cal Poly, which also had missed shots from McKenzie Flood and Megan Abutin.
Never miss a local story.
The Mustangs return to action Sunday at Saint Mary's at 2 p.m.
