The Cal Poly men’s basketball team concluded its three-game exhibition tour of France with an 87-72 win against Brétigny Select on Friday at Gymnase Joliot Curie.
Senior forward Joel Awich scored 23 points to help the Mustangs win their third and final game of the trip. Fellow senior David Nwaba added 21 points, including 13 during the decisive fourth quarter, and freshman Trevor John finished with 17 and sank four 3-pointers.
Cal Poly took its first double-digit lead when junior Ridge Shipley’s free throw made the score 50-38 midway through the third quarter. Brétigny Select eventually cut the lead to four early in the final period before Nwaba and Awich took over.
Nwaba scored three consecutive baskets, Awich dunked and made two free throws and Cal Poly was never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
Nwaba and Awich scored 20 of the Mustangs’ 28 points in the fourth quarter. Shipley and senior Brian Bennett added eight points apiece for Cal Poly.
