The San Luis Obispo Blue gave up six runs in the top of the first inning Friday and were unable to recover in dropping their California Collegiate League opener 7-5 to the Walnut Creek Crawdads at SLO Stadium in a summer collegiate baseball game.
It was the second straight loss for the Blues (7-2).
San Luis Obispo fought back, scoring once in the first and once in the second to make it a 6-2 game and later pulled within 7-5 in the fifth inning on a Jimmy Brakka RBI double and a Tanner Gardner sacrifice fly.
The Blues made things interesting again in the bottom of the ninth when Blake Johnson and Nick King drew walks to bring the winning run to the plate. However, the Crawdads (2-2, 2-1 CCL), last year's CCL Northern Division champs, got a strikeout to the end the game.
The two teams play again Saturday at 6 p.m. at SLO Stadium.
