KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Former Mission Prep standout Zach Allmon had six points and 11 rebounds Tuesday to help sixth-seeded Vanguard beat No. 8 seed Emmanuel of Georgia
70-65 to win the program’s first NAIA national basketball championship.
Preston Wynne scored 20 points for Vanguard (32-6), which was making its first tournament appearance since 2006.
The Lions beat defending champion Georgetown (Ky.) in the quarterfinals and routed St. Gregory’s of Oklahoma to reach the championship game.
Allmon had six points and five rebounds in Monday’s semifinal win and 14 points in Saturday’s quarterfinal win.
