The Major League Baseball Academy Barons summer collegiate baseball team defeated the visiting San Luis Obispo Blues 13-4 in a California Collegiate League best-of-three playoff series opener Saturday in Compton.
The Blues (37-18) play the Barons in Game 2 of the series at 11 a.m. today, with a possible winner-take-all finale to follow.
No other information was provided to The Tribune.
Regardless of today’s outcome, the Blues are already assured a bid to the National Baseball Congress World Series.

North County shuts out Fairfield, 6-0
Three North County Indians pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as North County earned its third summer collegiate baseball win over the Fairfield Indians in as many days with a
Nick Rosen pitched the first six innings for North County (30-10), striking out four, allowing two hits and one walk. Tyler Kollmann pitched the seventh inning, and Max Duval struck out five of the six batters he faced over the final two innings. North County also turned three double plays to help the pitching staff.
Connor O’Hare was 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI for North County, Alec Smith was
3 for 4 with a double, and Mac Stuart was 2 for 4.
