Several county teams earned the right to host first-round playoff basketball games, the Southern Section announced Sunday.
For the most part, that was good news.
On the girls side, PAC 8 champion Arroyo Grande (23-2) will host Santa Maria (11-13) in a Division 2AA first-round game Saturday.
On the boys side, PAC 8 champion Mission Prep (20-5) will host San Marino (14-12) in a Division 4AA playoff game Wednesday. And in Division 5A, Coast Valley League champion Coast Union (22-4) will host Santa Barbara’s Bishop Diego (9-18) on Wednesday.
The only county team that didn’t get the best of news was the Coast Union girls team (12-6), which was the Coast Valley League runner-up and got a first-round bye in the Division 5A playoffs. However, the Broncos will travel to No. 1 seed and Victory League champion Bloomington Christian (23-3) in a second-round game Saturday.
Other teams also hosting first-round games are the Nipomo boys team (12-14), which will host Mission League at-large Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks (12-14) in a Division 4AA game Wednesday, the Mission Prep girls team (16-8), the PAC 8 runner-up, which hosts Providence (7-5) on Thursday in a Division 5AA game and the Morro Bay girls team (12-14), which hosts Foothill Tech (11-11) of Ventura on Thursday.
Hitting the road on the boys side are Arroyo Grande (14-13) in Division 2AA, which will travel to play Almont League champion Mark Keppel of Alhambra (23-4) on Friday; in Division 3A, Paso Robles (10-15) will travel to Los Padres League champion Cabrillo (18-8) on Wednesday; in Division 4AA, Atascadero (11-14) will travel to Inglewood for a matchup with Morningside (16-10) on Wednesday; and in Division 6, Shandon (13-6) will travel to Providence (11-10) of Santa Barbara on Wednesday.
The girls teams heading out for road games are Atascadero (12-12) and San Luis Obispo (11-15) in Division 3A, with the Greyhounds traveling to Oak Park (11-16), and the Tigers going to Los Padres League champion Cabrillo (19-4) on Thursday.
Nipomo (10-15) in Division 4AA travels to Banning (12-13) on Thursday; and in Division 6, Coastal Christian (6-6) travels to Los Angeles Adventist (9-10), and Shandon (10-4) travels to Heritage League runner-up Santa Clarita Christian (9-4) on Thursday.
