The Kenai (Alaska) Oilers defeated the Nevada Griffons 11-6 in a summer collegiate baseball game Friday to advance to the National Baseball Congress World Series final against the undefeated Santa Barbara Foresters.
The game will start at 4 p.m. Should the Oilers win, they would force a second winner-take-all game at 6:30 p.m.
Cal Poly shortstop Mike Miller went 1 for 5 for the Oilers, with two runs, two RBI and one walk.
Central Coast Basketball League to start soon
The Central Coast Basketball League will start Aug. 28 at Cuesta College.
Games will go through Oct. 30 for boys and girls in the fourth grade through the high school varsity level. Cost is $550 per team before Aug. 20 and $585 after that date.

ESPN Radio Golf Series event set
ESPN Radio 1280 will hold the latest tournament in the ESPN Radio Golf Series at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course on Sept. 20.
The tournament is a two-man best ball tournament with a $2,000 purse. Prizes will be awarded for both gross and net.

Lompoc running event set for Sept. 24
The 35th annual Valley of the Flowers Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk will be held Sept. 24.
Costs are $50 for the half marathon, $55 after Sept. 7; and $30 for the 5K. Entry includes a Valley of the Flowers jersey, barbecue chicken lunch, entry to La Purisima Mission State Park and a finisher’s medal.
