Using a 14-hit performance, the San Luis Obispo Blues summer collegiate baseball team defeated the Menlo Park Legends 10-7 on Friday at SLO Stadium.
The Blues (18-6) got started early, after scoring two runs on a throwing error in the first inning of the nonleague game.In the fourth, San Luis Obispo broke the game open when Zac Elgie hit a two-run home run to left, in what turned out to be a four-run inning.
The Blues, however, almost let their 8-3 lead slip late. With a three-run seventh inning off a two-run double and an unearned run, the Legends (15-8) were able to crawl back to 8-6.
But after Alex Detz hit an RBI single in the sixth and Brandon Wood hit an RBI triple in the eighth, the Blues were able to hold on.

Blues starter Tom Barry went five innings and gave up three runs off four hits to earn the win.
With Santa Barbara’s California Collegiate League loss to the Conejo Oaks on Friday, the Blues took over sole possession of first place in the CCL.
