The San Luis Obispo Blues summer collegiate baseball team showed its range Sunday, sweeping the Glendale Angelenos in a doubleheader at SLO Stadium that had a little bit of everything.
In the first game, Travis Huber was perfect before allowing a single with two outs in the fifth inning in the Blues’ 2-0 win.
Huber (2-0) pitched 5 1⁄3 innings, holding Glendale (12-9, 4-9 California Collegiate League) to three hits and striking out six. “That was his best performance of the summer,” Blues manager Chal Fanning said. “We really needed that to set the tone for the day.”
Vince Wheeland got five outs for his first save, and former Paso Robles standout Thomas Bernal and former Mission Prep star Alex Detz hit RBI singles for the Blues.
San Luis Obispo (15-5, 12-5 CCL) won the second game with its bats, scoring seven runs in the first inning and four in the second en route to an 11-9 win.
Blues catcher Jo Jo Sharrar was 3 for 5 with four RBI, two runs and a double, and Austin Flores was 1 for 3 with a triple and two RBI.
Lars Liguori (1-1) earned the win in relief, and Paul Twining got his second save.
