The San Luis Obispo Blues beat the rival Santa Barbara Foresters 10-4 Friday evening, taking the opener of a three-game baseball series between last year’s top two California Collegiate League teams.
The Foresters (9-2, 5-2), who’ve won 17 of the CCL’s 18 championships, will look to even the series at 5 p.m. today before a possible rubber match at 1 p.m. Sunday.
In Friday’s win, Zac Elgie led the Blues (8-2, 5-2) by going 3 for 5 with two RBI.
San Luis Obispo took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning and added four more runs for a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Alex Detz, a former Mission Prep standout, finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored, while former Paso Robles star Thomas Bernal scored twice for the Blues, who outhit Santa Barbara 13-7.
