San Luis ObispoThomas Bernal’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday helped carry the San Luis Obispo Blues summer collegiate baseball team to a 7-2 season-opening win over the SLO Rattlers at SLO Stadium. Bernal, a former Paso Robles High star who redshirted this season at Kentucky, was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBI. He was the only player in the game with more than one hit.
Five Blues pitchers combined to hold the Rattlers to 4 hits and combined for 13 strikeouts.
Cal Poly signee Nick Grim pitched the first three innings for the Blues and struck out seven while allowing one hit. Kyle Brueggemann threw the next three innings to get the win, striking out five and allowing two hits.
