The San Luis Obispo Blues won a 10-3 decision over the Orange County Pioneers in Day 2 of the Rawlings California Cup at SLO Stadium on Friday night.
Andrew Collazo was 2 for 3 with a solo home run and two walks, and Austin Kingsolver added three hits for the Blues (19-11), who had been shutout in their previous two games.
A.J. Robinson had a three-run single in the fifth to give Blues starting pitcher Sean Yost a 7-0 lead.Yost picked up the win, pitching six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits.
He struck out four and walked one.
Dylan Mendoza, Sean Johnson and Cuesta College’s Robbie Nadalsky combined on three innings of hitless relief.Mike Kindel added two hits and scored twice for the Blues, who continue tournament play against the Santa Maria Packers at 7 this evening.
Jenses goes hitless in national trials
Cal Poly junior-to-be second baseman Matt Jensen was 0 for 2 as his Blue team fell to the Red squad 7-1 in the fourth game of the College National Team Trials.
Jensen, the first Cal Poly player to be invited to the trials, is now 2 for 9 in the series with an RBI and a walk in four games.
There are two games remaining in the trials, with the national team roster being finalized at their conclusion.
The 22-man roster will represent Team USA in exhibition games against Korean, Japanese and Chinese Taipei college all-star teams in Tokyo from July 30 to Aug. 7.
Local golfer hits two holes in one
Cal Poly grad Trevor LaSalle hit not one, but two holes in one at the Chalk Mountain Golf Course.
LaSalle aced the 176-yard third hole and the 115-yard seventh. Don Price, Dick Chafin and Art Everett witnessed the shots. Both holes were par 3.
