Former Cal Poly and Paso Robles High golfer Travis Bertoni won his first NGA Hooters Tour title Sunday by shooting a final-round 7-under 64 at the Georgia Sports Orthopedic Specialists Classic held at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Bertoni, 25, said in a news release. “I didn’t feel like I was trying to get a monkey off my back or anything, but I am glad to finally have this first one out of the way.”
Bertoni, a fourth-year pro, opened the last round trailing Brian Lamberti and Garrett Jones by a stroke apiece but had pars over his first two holes before a birdie at the par-3 third. He later added three birdies in a row from holes 5 through 7, and another on the ninth.
“I didn’t have a number in my head of what I needed to shoot to get the win,” Bertoni said, “but I figured a 4 or 5-under day would be good enough to get me close.
Never miss a local story.
“I didn’t want to put pressure on myself by guessing a specific number coming into the round.”
He finished at a 19-under 265 to take home the winner’s check of $30,000. Bertoni was a three-time Big West Conference Golfer of the Year at Cal Poly from 2003 to 2006.
