Mother Nature will not be contained behind hay bales or orange mesh fencing (“Dust-up still blowing strong,” May 31).
Dust pollution is a direct result of our strong spring winds, but it is also enhanced by, and made worse by, ATVs. There are no other beaches in California that allow the destruction of this pristine and sensitive dune area for recreation. Just imagine the pollution caused by ATVs alone, the trash left behind and the numerous deaths caused unnecessarily each year from riding accidents.
It is time to consider closing the area to this sport, letting Mother Nature rejuvenate herself and allowing us humans on foot to enjoy the quiet beauty it once was.
