For weeks, I’ve seen about 25 or 30 old rail cars parked on the rails that parallel Highway 1 between Pismo Beach and Grover Beach. Many of these cars are very old and look rusty.
I realize that Union Pacific owns the railway and, undoubtedly, the old cars, but I’m beginning to wonder whether they plan to leave them there indefinitely.
Hopefully, they’re not oil tankers, parked until a decision is made as to whether there will be a connecting line from Nipomo to accommodate the shipping of oil or shale. It’s worrisome.
