I enjoyed reading Bruce Henderson’s Letter to the Editor, “Rail is important,” on May 29. I wholeheartedly support his opinion.
Having been born and raised in the Netherlands, where trains are an important way of transportation, I agree that “the taxpaying public deserve more transportation choices, including efficient and safe passenger rail.”
I would also like to add “on time,” as they are in Europe. I recognize that the distances in California and between U.S. cities are much greater than in Europe.
Amtrak should have its own rail. The cost of an efficient system is extremely high but we should plan for it now so that generations to come will enjoy the fruits of our labor. Think of the employment it will create! Thank you, Henderson!
