As far as I know, we do not know the details of how science teacher Brandon Pettenger introduced creationism into his class, but if done in the right way, it would be great lesson on how science works. We debate theories, in part, on whether they can be falsified. That is, can evidence be found that shows the theory is incorrect? An idea that a brown teapot is in orbit around the sun is not falsifiable and therefore not a useful theory.
Evolution, which describes a gradual process whereby species become extinct and are replaced by others is falsifiable. For example, were a rabbit fossil to be found next to a dinosaur fossil, the theory would fail.
Creationism teaches that all creatures were created at the same time. We should be finding rabbit fossils next to dinosaurs, but so far we have not. A debate among students along these lines would be excellent pedagogy.
