I don’t understand why the Brian Williams story is such a shocker. Newscasters nowadays are just entertainers, like everyone else we see on TV (Ron Burgundy, anyone?). Who really looks to news anchors as trusted friends? Not since Walter Cronkite has the nation held a newscaster in high esteem. “Conflate-gate” doesn’t make me want to watch Brian Williams any less than before, nor did his “war stories” make me feel any greater respect for him. HE. READS. THE. NEWS. That’s all he does.
The Internet has changed the way we get information and the way we look at public figures. Now all newscasters are just pretty-faced talking heads (what ever happened to John Reger anyway?).
