Have you ever wondered what happens to the doves that are released at an event like a wedding?
I didn’t give it much thought until a few weeks ago when a white dove appeared in our backyard bird-feeding area. It was hungry and thirsty and friendly. It has continued to stay in our yard but we have found no indication that anyone has posted notices about a lost dove. The local pet supply stores have confirmed that this is what happens when doves are released at an event. They are not homing pigeons. They are docile doves that become disoriented when they are tossed into the air and then often fly away. A white dove is not equipped for life in the wild and is easily spotted as prey.
Please think twice about throwing away these beautiful birds at your event.
