Your recent front-page sports article and photo (“Webb’s balancing act,” Jan. 14) reminded me that as one of Cal Poly’s financial managers I reviewed and published athletics data for the university’s Fiscal Services department.
Phil Webb and I worked for many years on periodic athletics financial statements, and prepared for and responded to the subsequent NCAA required annual audits. I repeatedly found Phil Webb’s work to be transparent, honest and timely. He was always a very gentle man even when challenges presented themselves.
Thanks, Phil, for keeping such accurate athletics data for all of the campus to use, and for being one darn nice guy. Enjoy a well-deserved retirement knowing that Cal Poly athletics financial data is better managed and a better reporting tool because of you.
