I’m greatly concerned that Debbie Arnold has been passed over for the vice chairmanship of the Board of Supervisors, and would like to disagree with Mr. Bruce Gibson’s comments that this position is not important.
It was important enough to vote him in out of sequence when he was running for re-election — obviously to keep him in the public eye and get more votes.
Let’s not kid ourselves: The chairmanship has dual results — gaining excellent leadership experience and getting reelected.
Now Mr. Frank Mecham is up for re-election. If he runs — which to me is obvious — this chairmanship will have significant importance for him as well. How convenient that the succession had been changed.
Cut to 2015: The three male board members again want to change the historical sequence, which will obviate Ms. Arnold’s opportunity to serve as chairman following Mr. Mecham. Why? Perhaps so she will not also benefit from the dual results? If Mr. Mecham and his male associates wish to be transparent, they might begin here. Rotation of the chairmanship should not be changed to suit their political purposes. This year, Debbie Arnold is due to be vice chair.
