It is an established fact that this nation has not been a representative democracy for several decades. Even recent studies have confirmed it.
This nation is an oligarchy (government by few for the benefit of few).
In my opinion, both political parties in power are responsible for this, aided by an ideological, ignorant and uninterested electorate.
One possible way to reverse this trend (it will take some time) would be to seriously allow a third political party (or more) to enter the national political scene.
Another possible way would be to remove the cancer of politics: money. At the same time political campaigns would last no longer than four to six months.
It would be nice to elect anybody by popular vote only. No games.
It would be nice to educate the electorate to vote pragmatically, not emotionally. I know that this is easier said than done, given the history of this nation. But I also know that what we see happening today, even with the Supreme Court, is the result of a vibrant oligarchy.
Are the Founding Fathers turning in their graves? You bet!
