I just moved to the Central Coast two months ago. I have been exploring the area and enjoying all that this unique, smalltown community has to offer. And I have to show my amazement at some recent events I have been privileged to attend.
On my morning walk around my neighborhood in Nipomo recently, I saw young men stationed at intervals, wearing vests with “Grizzly Youth Academy” printed on them. They were assisting the charity bicycle race going on with traffic control, etc. All the young men I saw were very polite and happy to greet me. I had never heard of this type of school before but looked them up online to learn a little more about them.
Imagine my surprise when I volunteered at Michael Clayton’s Veterans Day Barbecue in Santa Maria just two days later, and found a platoon of Grizzly Youth Academy students there to participate in the festivities and also assist the veterans and public with the lunch. Again, they were so polite, helpful and a delight to work with.
These young men and women are our future. And they are getting valuable experience by working in the community. Thank you to all of them.
