This is a county (and state) that has forbidden the use of plastic bags for retailers. Why isn’t our county concerned about the miles of abandoned strawberry field plastic with weeds growing through it near Los Osos Valley Road, Foothill Boulevard and O’Connor Way behind Temple Beth David? Is that plastic going to be cultivated under and new crops be planted? Yuck! Are cattle going to be allowed back into the area to graze? Yuck! That plastic is much more dangerous than those bags we’re forbidden to use.
Would someone in the county responsible for taking care of this please get that plastic off the abandoned two-year-old experiment of strawberry fields? You could check with Santa Barbara County and find out the method for removing plastic off strawberry fields. Santa Maria area planters remove it regularly.
Why were these fields planted in the first place? Did anyone check the soil to see if strawberries would grow here?
