On Sept. 18, The Tribune printed a letter I submitted in which I asked for “at least one Muslim from this area to write a letter to The Tribune, submit an opinion piece — anything that condemns the Islamic State for subverting the religion of Islam ”
Coincidentally, a few days after my letter appeared President Barack Obama spoke at the United Nations, where he said, “It is time for the world, especially in Muslim communities, to explicitly, forcefully and consistently reject the ideology of organizations like al-Qaida and ISIL.”
Apparently no Muslim in our community chose to respond to my letter or the president’s message. How can this be? When will the Muslim majority finally realize the folly of tolerating so much horror in their name?
If no Muslims are willing to speak out against ISIL to defend what has often been described as a religion of peace, what am I to conclude?
