I would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support I have received countywide during my service as supervisor.
I am so proud of all that we accomplished over the past year. We’ve initiated significant water ordinance changes; finalized the purchase of the Pismo Preserve; delivered a balanced budget and a AAA bond rating; solved a thorny problem 10 years old at Viva Farms; initiated code changes to help Oceano homeowners; hired five new department directors who will shape the county for years to come, and on and on. It’s been an incredible amount of work, and worth every moment.
I’ve had the opportunity to do more for my county in a year than most people get to do in a lifetime.
I would also like to recognize the extraordinary talent and service of my legislative assistant, Liz Ruth. Hiring her was the best decision I made as supervisor, and her contributions cannot be overstated. Liz has helped countless individuals find resolution on issues that seemed impossible to solve. She has given her full attention to every meeting, phone call and research project, regardless of politics, affiliation or temperament of the players. She has been my right hand, my doorkeeper, my sounding board and my friend.
The best part of this past year has been meeting people all over our county who continue to do amazing things, both large and small. They’ve shared their stories, opened their homes, stepped up and helped — and they are the heroes. This county is full of talented, dedicated, gifted citizens: far, far more than many people realize.
It has been my true privilege to have served.
