The North Coast Ocean Rescue held its eighth annual Pier to Point Kayak and Paddle Board Race on Sept. 13. It’s a 6-mile paddle that starts at the San Simeon Pier and ends at Leffingwell Landing in Cambria. The event is our main fundraiser for the year and is not possible without the help of a few of our local organizations and individuals.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) provided the organization and personnel to make our event run like a well-oiled machine.
Another special thankyou was well earned by Mike Hanchett and the Cavalier crew. They donated, prepared and served a delicious tri-tip barbecue for about 100 people. The Community Council donated the use of its bus, driven by Ruben Villalobos and Norm Smith. Don Sather and Bill Walters from the Cambria Fishing Club manned the finish line and made sure everyone was pointed in the right direction.
It takes a lot of planning and work to have a safe adventure on the open ocean, and the North Coast Ocean Rescue has a deep sense of gratitude for the volunteer spirit in our community.
