Arroyo Grande is our hometown. We both went to Arroyo Grande schools. Both of our families were among the early settlers of the Arroyo Grande Valley. We both volunteer our time and knowledge toward the historic preservation of Arroyo Grande. Currently, we are focused on the rehabilitation of Arroyo’s 106-year-old Bridge Street Bridge.
While we agree that the City Council possibly made missteps during their response to the Adams-McClish incident, we will withhold judgement until the completion of the investigative report. We think that the destructive atmosphere at City Council meetings does not benefit the community. Everyone has the opportunity and the right to speak during public comment. But yelling while seated in the audience or at the microphone, is not acceptable.
We also deplore the use of anonymous online comments. They create heat without illumination. Anonymous online writers are liberal with their use of swear words and their denunciation of the mayor, City Council and city staff. They are opinionated, but hide their identities. Where is their courage or honor?
We support the mayor, City Council and city staff. We own our opinion.
