The California Retired Teachers Association this week is celebrating Retired Teachers Week.
This is a special week for educators, both teachers and administrators, current and retired, to be recognized for their valuable contributions to our community during their careers and well into their retirement. We know that teachers (which includes more than just the man or woman working with your children in their classroom) help open the eyes of our next generations to the opportunities and possibilities of their futures.
Now is a time to think back to your own school years and remember those teachers who went beyond their written contracts, spending money out of their own pockets to provide a memorable experience for their students, and who were there to say, “Good morning,” as you arrived at your “home away from home.”
Realize that they really didn’t have “three months off for summer vacation,” but they went to summer school and workshops to learn about the newest innovative and effective learning tools and ways of teaching, while developing new units for the next year.
Never miss a local story.
So please thank your child or grandchild’s teachers, help out in our schools when you can and support education in our community.
