I’m affronted by Lois Capps’ obvious misrepresentation of Chris Mitchum in her current TV political attack ad. Misquoted twice in both audio and print is the following statement attributed to Mitchum, “I do not intend to go to Washington to represent the 24th District.”
Note the period and closed quote shown in print. Good red meat for the non-questioning liberal faithful, but the audio prompts skeptics to suspect that perhaps this quote was taken out of context.
Sure enough, a brief search identifies the full quote as, “I do not intend to go to Washington to represent the 24th District to bring back baseball fields. That’s not why I’m going.” The full quote in context indicates Mr. Mitchum’s contempt for pork barrel politics as opposed to a supposed desire not to represent the 24th District. Following the second use of the misquote in her attack ad, Ms. Capps boldly states, “I’m Lois Capps, and I approve this message.”
This intentionally outof-context misquote is inane, arrogant, and downright dishonest, unbecoming of a decent political representative. Ms. Capps’ smug approval of this misrepresentation should convince all those not stoned on the collectivist Kool-Aid to vote instead for Mr. Mitchum.
