We live in a time when many citizens not only disagree with our political leaders, but choose to attack them, often based on their position on a single issue.
With respect to the mayor of Pismo Beach, I am among those who are grateful for her service.
I have observed Mayor Shelly Higginbotham in numerous venues across San Luis Obispo County, and I am proud to have someone of her caliber represent our city.
She serves as the Pismo Beach City Council representative on the board of the Homeless Services Oversight Council, appointed by the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors. She also volunteers to serve as the chairwoman of the board of the 5 Cities Homeless Coalition, which is working to help the homeless and those in need in all of South County. She serves as the president of the SLO County Council of Governments.
Many others and I recognize her value to the community, her willingness to listen to different viewpoints, her intellectual abilities, her knowledge and her compassion. I have heard advocacy for change in Pismo Beach; in the case of Shelly Higginbotham, a change cannot result in anything approaching her excellent leadership.
