As a friend and staff member of Sjany de Groot, I find the amount of scrutiny the de Groot nursing home is receiving concerning. After over 35 years of dedicated service, one has to question: “Why now?”
The state Public Health Department is harshly enforcing extreme institutional regulatory requirements on a one-of-a-kind facility. The approach of the de Groot home is not that of an ordinary “institution” but one of a family home. Clearly, it’s an approach the state department is not accustomed to.
The children who reside in the de Groot home are given individualized attention, quality care and dignity. They are children who have been welcomed into a family environment, whereby they are cared for in a manner that is moral, kind and unconditionally loving. In my opinion, this is far more than any other institution has to offer.
