Common sense would dictate that the county review the last time we looked at oil out in the Huasna area. Nothing has changed (except the name of the applicant). The access to the site is untenable.
Production vehicles sharing this narrow road with our school buses is not safe (or smart). The county will lose tax revenues for tar to be trucked and processed outside our county. The noise and smell can’t be mitigated. Over 30 wells have been prospected and abandoned over the past four decades. Not to mention the shallow pockets of the applicant: Has this county so quickly forgotten the oil spills in Avila Beach and Guadalupe? This is not Shell Oil, which has hundreds of millions of dollars to clean up the mess. If this company goes bankrupt, it will leave the county to pay for a clean up. Also, remember the water shortage? Yeah, let’s pump hundreds of thousands of gallons into the ground when neighboring drinking wells are running dry. Go back and gauge the overblown claims for the “jobs and taxes” this would bring against the facts of the operation, and all of the negative impacts to the county.
Two hundred words is not enough to adequately describe how bad this idea is.
