One thing is clear: Xanax (alprazolam) is a rapid and short-acting drug of great addiction and abuse propensity. Great Britain banned it, and so should we. It’s very hard to get a patient weaned off this drug once they are hooked; the withdrawal anxiety mimics panic attacks. No docs should be prescribing this unsafe benzodiazepine. There are many safer drug alternatives if non-drug approaches — too often bypassed — seem inadequate.
