May 18, I had the pleasure of viewing an inspiring and well-made documentary at the Palm Theater, titled “Rebels With A Cause.” It emphasized the power of a few dedicated people to save open space for passive use and to preserve it for future generations.
The film was well attended. The filmmakers were there to discuss its history and answer questions afterward. It was shown locally as a fundraiser for the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary.
The Central Coast leaves a gap between the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the Channel Islands NMS. Our coast has been threatened with oil exploration, seismic testing, agriculture and sewage runoff and more. One of the many good reasons we should close this gap is the migration of whales, dolphins and the protection of sea life. We can and must do this.
