To quote former tennis star John McEnroe: “You cannot be serious!” That’s my reaction to the proposal to allow up to 400 railroad tanker cars loaded with volatile crude oil to move through the heart of SLO County every week.
Derailments of these trains have killed dozens of people and blown up entire towns. That’s why SLO County planning commissioners should vote quickly to stop any chance of that happening here. Even with tighter regulations on trains hauling crude oil, the risk of moving millions of gallons of highly flammable material through populated areas is just not acceptable.
If you think McEnroe had temper tantrums over line calls, wait until you see the reaction of folks around here if this ridiculous idea should ever be approved.
