Two items from the April 6 paper need comment.
The first is the irony of the local section headline “SLO’s nightmare roadway,” and the fact that the construction on the Bob Jones bikeway bridge/extension was just completed last week, and now bike traffic is included in the nightmare. Now traffic has to stop for an additional signal rotation to allow recreational bicyclists to enter LOVR. Throw in the fact that the entire bridge is going to be under heavy construction for the next two years, one has to wonder who’s running things at public works?
The second item is the editorial on the Measure Y extension vote. What the editorial left out was that voters won’t have a say in terms of how the money is spent. The way things are going now it will probably go into the general fund, where the council can spend it on any item of special interest. Or maybe someone from out of town will tell the council to give the local cops another 30 percent boost in pay. If the voters are going to decide, they should be given a choice on how the money is spent.
