I put on my cowboy hat and went to see “How the West Was Won” over the weekend. It was part of the San Luis Obispo Film Festival. It’s a Cinerama picture, which means it’s done in a panoramic form on an extra-wide screen. This turned out to be a memorable experience. The wide sweeping panoramic views of this wonderful country of ours at times brought tears to my eyes. It’s been awhile since I’ve been affected by a movie in that way.
Later on, I met with Nancy Joynt, who is with the film festival staff. It was her idea to show the film. We had a nice conversation. Toward the end, she said to me, “You know, I think you brought away from the film more than probably anybody else.” She thanked me for coming and then told me something I rarely, if ever hear, “You really made my day.”
Thank you, Nancy, and to all who helped make the SLO Film Festival such a fine event. You made my day, and I’m grateful.
