The evening of March 12, a green bike lane and bike box were painted at the intersection of Madonna Road and South Higuera Street, heading east on Madonna Road.
On the morning of March 13, I rode it on my bike for the first time. It’s perfect — it alerts drivers to bike traffic, it channels bike riders onto a safe path through that intersection and it’s a huge improvement in the safety of that dangerous intersection.
I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see our mayor, City Council and city staff putting obvious effort into making this city safer for bike riders.
They’re making the happiest city in the USA even happier. I’ve heard many times and from many people that the level of attention our local elected officials and their staff give to the concerns of the public in SLO is nearly unprecedented, and it shows. They’re listening, and I’m very thankful!
