‘Early support voiced in SLO” screamed the Feb. 14, front page headline in The Tribune. The story concerned a presentation of conceptual plans for the latest iteration of the proposed development of the Dalidio property.
The Tribune’s editorial support for development of this agricultural land seems to be bleeding over into its headline writing. In the story itself, it is clear that the “early support” was actually the Planning Commission’s support to continue studying the proposal, not approving it. In reading the story further, one finds that “several speakers” voiced concern over the loss of prime agricultural land and only one speaker’s remarks could be construed as “supportive.”
This proposal will be controversial just as all the previous ones have been. It is imperative that The Tribune keep its editorial views of the project separate from its reporting on it.
