In regard to your article “Crash rates drop for drivers older than 70” (Tribune, Feb. 21), I would like to add the fact these elderly drivers are not texting or talking on a cell phone while driving.
My husband and I are both in our 80s and are both still driving. Thank goodness my husband is very aware of other drivers and has very good peripheral vision.
In the approach to Lowe’s parking lot, a young girl changed lanes in front of us and forced my husband to go up over a curb to avoid hitting her broadside. She was more interested in who was texting her than where she was driving. She never even looked back to see if we were OK.
I guess common sense comes with old age. I hope these young people live long enough to find this out.
