Mr. Boonisar’s letter misses the point, however, in stating that enforcing traffic laws on bicycle riders should resolve the concerns that prompted my original letter. Perhaps he forgot I was responding to Mr. Negrete’s “Ban the bikes” letter, suggesting bicycle riders should be banned from narrow roads because he found it nearly “impossible” to avoid hitting them.
Rather than my letter being one-sided, it was an attempt to expand Mr. Negrete’s knowledge about the state law that establishes equal rights for bike riders and car drivers. My hope was, and is, that if more people honor the fact that both riders and drivers have equal access to our roads, even narrow ones, it will prevent future bicycle fatalities. That would resolve my concerns.
