If you’re reading this in a newspaper, you’re probably old enough to remember the era of the “Moral Majority,” which was neither moral nor the majority. Then briefly, we had “Compassionate Conservatism,” which turned out to be an oxymoron. Next, the “Tea Party” came blazing in with superficial success, until its real effects unmasked its weaknesses and societal damages.
Now, as the Tea Party fades into history, the quiet majority is left to repair the distress of government shutdowns and other ill-fated consequences in its wake. Fortunately for America, these disruptions come in short-lived episodes.
