The Dec. 19 Viewpoint on the California Conservation Corps was great, but I feel the thanks should be going in the other direction.
I live in Cabrillo Estates in Los Osos, and the CCC has just completed a firebreak around our community. The work in my area took various crews several weeks; every CCC person I met had an exceptional work ethic. Every worker and supervisor was very pleasant, friendly and conscientious. The work site was cleaned up every day, even though the crew would return the next morning. I am in awe at the hard work these people do, not to mention the danger they face when they’re involved in firefighting — and all for very meager compensation.
