The purpose of this letter is to request a full and complete explanation from the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for the seven-hour and 50-minute Oct. 9 power outage in parts of Arroyo Grande.
Due to this power failure, Charter Communications’ cable TV, Internet and phone service was down for an additional 13 hours, not coming back on until about 1 p.m. Oct. 10.
Without a significant weather event to blame, I believe that PG&E must address the concerns of the individuals, families and businesses affected by this lengthy and, in some cases, costly inconvenience.
I would expect PG&E’s response to state the exact cause of the outage and the reasons why its routine inspection and maintenance procedures failed to detect this impending problem. Further, I want the company to describe the specific steps it plans to take to ensure that this does not happen again.
Never miss a local story.
Our electric power rates are among the highest in the nation, while our weather is among the most mild. Under these circumstances, a nearly eight-hour power outage is unacceptable.
I encourage The Tribune to print PG&E’s response to this letter.
