President Barack Obama has shown remarkable restraint in his reaction to the developing problems in Syria, and in return, the Fox News crowd has taken to accusing him of not being a “warrior.” These charges spring from the lips of “warriors” like Charles Krauthammer, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, none of whom served in the military.
With respect to Syria, the president is justifiably concerned about miscalculating and involving the United States in another Iraq-style quagmire. Lest we forget, the architects of the Iraq fiasco were “warriors” like Dick “five deferments” Cheney, Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz, none of whom have one iota of military experience.
Before we attempt to bomb another Middle Eastern country into a more Democratic frame of mind, we should proceed with caution. Our previous attempts have been abject failures.
