The Tribune has featured articles on human trafficking and the arrests of more than 150 pimps and the rescue of 105 young teen girls (as young as 13), throughout the United States.
This important human issue has been the focus of Soroptimist International of the Americas since 2007. Several members of Soroptimist International of SLO have attended lectures that have featured speakers from the FBI and nonprofit groups who work directly with these unfortunate young girls and women or provide awareness and prevention training.
Human trafficking is not only about the sex trades, but also young girls and women being forced into slave labor. Our mission is to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.
Be aware and watchful of human trafficking. SISLO has put help line numbers at the train and bus stations and laundromats, disseminated information to shelters and schools, and helped raised awareness in our community. We need to protect our young girls and women by supporting the efforts of law enforcement and groups who help these young women.
