I cannot believe that you did not print one word about the Van Halen concert. I went out and bought the paper just for that reason, and lo and behold, all I can find is the Ticket with Huey Lewis on the front page. Really? Yes, he is an icon, but he has been featured at the fair before.
Van Halen, especially with David Lee Roth, is not something we will probably ever see here again. They are not just icons, but legends that changed the way a generation listened to music. And Eddie Van Halen with his guitar and writing abilities changed the way a lot of us looked at and learned to appreciate hard rock. Shame on you. You really dropped the ball. Editor’s note: Reporter Patrick S. Pemberton wrote about Van Halen in the July 18 issue of Ticket. The band declined The Tribune’s request for an interview and did not allow officical coverage of its performance at the fair; however Tribune staffer Sarah Linn attended and reviewed the concert.
